[ARCHIVED] Firefighters Extinguish Blaze at Recycling Yard

Fire at Recycling Yar

Las Cruces firefighters extinguished a large debris fire at a recycling yard Monday afternoon.

Shortly after 4 p.m. Monday, May 9, firefighters were dispatched to the report of a vehicle fire in the yard of Las Cruces Recycling, 1961 Copper Loop. The first-arriving firefighters located the fire and thick, heavy smoke emitting from the recycle yard.

Firefighters attacked the blaze from the ground and overhead using aerial apparatuses. The fire was contained to the lot and brought under control in less than two hours.

There was no damage to structures or equipment, and there were no reported injuries.

Fire personnel determined the blaze was fueled by scrap metals, debris and several vehicles that were awaiting recycle. The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.
