New Fees for City Building Permits Go into Effect on November 5

Las Cruces City Hall

A new fee schedule for all building and inspection permits issued by the City of Las Cruces Community Development Department will go into effect on Thursday, Nov. 5, 2020.

New fees will apply to:

  1. Administrative fees, including the Technology fee.
  2. Commercial addition/alteration/new permit.
  3. Construction trade permit (electrical, mechanical, and plumbing).
  4. Inspection.
  5. Site cleanup.
  6. Floodplain review.
  7. Fire systems.
  8. Wall and fence.
  9. Sign permits.
  10. Mobile homes.

Las Cruces community members can apply for permits online at https://www.las-cruces.org/179/Community-Development.

On Aug. 17, 2020, the Las Cruces City Council considered and approved Resolution 20-019, which called for increases in permit fees related to a variety of services provided by the Community Development Department for permitting and inspections.

“The Resolution calls for simplifying and streamlining the fees list into one document and update the fees in general to current market conditions and customer service resourcing,” Community Development Director Larry Nichols said. “This is important to allow for consistency in the fee structure and to partially compensate for increasing costs of resources to support the services provided by the department personnel, which includes adopting newer technology that helps improve the customer service experience.”

Additional information and opportunities to learn about the City’s Community Development Department can also be found on the Department’s web page.
