City Council to Meet October 12 for a Work Session

City Council

The Las Cruces City Council will meet via video conference at 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 12, 2020 for a work session.

Memorial Medical Center administration, represented by Chief Executive Officer John Harris and Chief Financial Officer Steve Winegeart, will present proposed amendments and provide details of the hospital’s lease agreement with the City, who with Doña Ana County are co-owners of the facility. The proposed amendments seek to modify terms, clarify some definitions, and add language on annual reporting requirements.

The lease is a 40-year term, of which 16 years have been completed.

Also, on the agenda for Monday’s City Council work session, City staff will present a quarterly update on the status of General Obligation (GO) Bond projects. The update is intended to provide current information about the projects by highlighting background, status and estimated timelines for the design and construction phases of implementation.

Additionally, City Council will be updated on Business Retention and Expansion (BRE) and Business Support for Recovery programs.

The City of Las Cruces’ Economic Development Department has launched a BRE program to proactively connect with existing local businesses to understand and respond to their needs. The program has started as a pilot with businesses located at the West Mesa Industrial Park and Las Cruces International Airport.

The program then will expand throughout the City for specific industries and by geographical areas. Staff will discuss where the Economic Development Department currently is with the pilot program, the input that has been received so far from the businesses assisted, and the plans to expand the BRE Program.

The Economic Development Department has also put in place programs to address the specific needs from businesses during COVID-19 and for recovery. Staff will provide an update on these programs including BizSprint, LiftFund, Social Media Assistance, and other initiatives being explored.

The full agenda for Monday’s City Council work session is available at: https://lascruces.civicweb.net/Portal/MeetingInformation.aspx?Org=Cal&Id=172

The work session will be televised live at 1 p.m. Monday on CLC-TV, Comcast Cable channel 20. The work session will also be available online at clctv.com and at YouTube.com.clctv20

Immediately following Monday’s work session, a video conference meeting to set the agenda for the Oct. 19 regularly scheduled City Council meeting will be conducted. The agenda setting meeting will be televised on CLC-TV and will be online at clctv.com and YouTube.com/clctv20.
