The Las Cruces Utilities (LCU) dropbox for payments, in the parking lot between Las Cruces City Hall and Thomas Branigan Memorial Library has been repaired and City utilities customers can again put check payments in the dropbox.
Due to the damage, plans are underway to soon replace the current, older dropbox with a sturdier, easier-to-use model.
LCU customers are also reminded that cashiers are open with two stations only to accept payments at City Hall, 700 N. Main St. Those stations are open from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Customers can pay utility bills with cash, check, or credit card. New line patterns for customer safety have been established. Additionally, the location for the payment drop box inside City Hall has been moved to the lobby to comply with applicable health and safety guidelines.
To avoid possible slow service from the reduced capacity, LCU customers are encouraged to use the pay-by-phone and online bill pay services. Information on how to access these services and other ways to pay their monthly bill is on the City website, at https://www.las-cruces.org/1238/More-Ways-To-Pay.
The LCU payment drop box was vandalized late Wednesday, Sept. 30, or early Thursday, Oct. 1. Any LCU customers who submitted drop box payments between 8 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 30, and 8 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 1 should verify the payment was received by calling LCU Customer Service at 575/541-2111. If it was not received, then their payment and personal information on their payment may have been stolen from the box.
Customers using the dropbox should only be putting checks and their bill stubs in the dropbox. However, the checks and stubs contain personal information, such as utility account numbers, names and addresses, and possibly phone numbers. This is personal information but is not protected information.
