[ARCHIVED] Pickleball and Tennis Court COVID-19 Schedules Continue to Evolve

Pickleball and tennis enthusiasts will benefit when court schedules change to better serve players, effective Tuesday, September 8, as the City of Las Cruces Parks and Recreation Department adjusts its pilot specialty court program based on national, state, and local guidelines concerning COVID-19.

The City of Las Cruces Parks and Recreation Department continues to observe its Phase 2 status for parks and recreational programs that follow COVID-19 safe practices and the State public health order still in place, which includes wearing face coverings in public settings except when eating, drinking, or swimming, practicing social distancing, limiting the numbers of people gathering to 10 or fewer.

The following are the revisions for the use of specialty outdoor courts at Apodaca Park, for Pickleball, and Lions Park, for tennis.

Adjusted Pickleball Court Schedule (effective Sept. 8)
Apodaca Park pickleball courts, 801 E. Madrid Ave., can be reserved 24 hours in advance by calling 575/541-2563 between noon and 3 p.m. Monday sessions can be reserved on Saturday.

Morning sessions (All sessions are 90 minutes)
7:30 a.m. to 9 a.m.
9:15 a.m. to 10:45 a.m.
Monday through Saturday

Evening session
6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Monday through Saturday

Courts are closed on Sunday

Reservation requirements:
•    Individual participants can reserve as many as two spots in their chosen session (16 spots are available per session) 24 hours in advance. For reservations, call 575/541-2563.
•    Participants will be allowed to rotate players within their session if they choose to do so.
•    After participants have completed their session, they may stay and play if there are spots available.
•    Same day sign-ups can be reserved for the afternoon sessions between noon and 3 p.m., and only if there is an evening session already scheduled.

Adjusted Tennis Court Schedule (effective Sept. 8)
Lions Park tennis courts, 701 W. Picacho Ave., can be reserved, 24 hours in advance, by calling 575/541-2563 between noon and 3 p.m. Monday sessions can be reserved on Saturday.

Morning sessions (All sessions are 90 minutes long)
7:30 a.m. to 9 a.m.
9:15 a.m. to 10:45 a.m.
Monday through Saturday

Evening sessions
6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
7:45 p.m. to 9:15 p.m.
Monday through Saturday

Courts are closed on Sunday.

Reservation requirements:
•    Individual participants can reserve one spot in their chosen session (30 spots are available per session) 24 hours in advance. For reservations, call 575/541-2563.
•    Singles and doubles will be allowed substitutions, allowing a maximum of five players on each court during their session if they choose to do so.
•    Substitutes cannot have played the previous session within the same day to allow the opportunity for everyone to play.
•    Six courts will be available for reservations in advance.  
•    One court will be designated for registered players to rotate and challenge each other. Registered players are those who have checked in for their reserved session.  
•    Everyone will check-in upon arrival and challenge court will be first come, first serve.
•    After participants have completed their session, they may stay and play if it has been determined that there are spots available.
