[ARCHIVED] Special City Council Meeting on August 27 to Focus on COVID-19 Funding

City Council

The Las Cruces City Council will conduct a Special City Council Meeting, via video conference, at 1 p.m. Thursday, August 27.

The meeting will be televised on CLC-TV, Comcast Cable channel 20. It will also be available online at clctv.com and at YouTube.com/clctv20

At Thursday’s Special Meeting, City Council will consider the adoption of a resolution authorizing the City of Las Cruces to accept a budget adjustment for emergency assistance for the impact from COVID-19 to various programs from the Telshor Facility Fund for $1,400,000, through an amendment to the City’s adopted 2021 Fiscal Year budget. A budget adjustment would allow for funds to be available to provide funding for essential and critical services to combat the effects of COVID-19 across the Las Cruces community.

On April 3, 2020, the Las Cruces City Council adopted Resolution 20-132 which allocated $1,072,500 in emergency assistance from the Telshor Facility Fund to support activities related to COVID-19 emergency response. On April 10, City Council allocated an additional $684,000 from the Telshor Fund, via Resolution 20-134, in emergency assistance for the same intended purpose. On April 17, City Council also approved Resolution 20-146 which awarded $139,500 from the City’s general fund.

COVID-19 continues to pose a threat to the health, safety, well-being, and property of Las Cruces residents. Furthermore, the City Council acknowledges the continued need to support the community through local nonprofit organizations and other essential service providers being impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

At the Special Meeting, City Council will also consider adopting a resolution approving an adjusted quarterly financial report to the New Mexico Department of Finance and Administration, for the period ending June 30, 2020. Section 6-6-2 of the New Mexico Statutes Annotated (NMSA) 1978, as amended, mandates that the  New Mexico Department of Finance and Administration’s Local Government Division (DFA/LGD) requires periodic financial reports from local public entities across the state, such as the City of Las Cruces.

As a result, the City files quarterly financial reports with the DFA/LGD. The DFA/LGD requires a resolution from the governing body, approving the 2020 Fiscal Year fourth quarter report, ending June 30, 2020. The deadline to submit the adjusted report to DFA/LGD is Friday, August 28.
