The Las Cruces City Council unanimously approved a contract for new City Manager Ifo Pili at its Monday, August 17 meeting. Pili, who has been city administrator of Eagle Mountain, Utah since 2012 and has 14 years of experience in municipal administration, begins as the City of Las Cruces’ top administrator on September 8.
Pili’s contract includes an annual base salary of $216,000 and will require him to live within the Las Cruces city limits.
“I really am excited about being a part of the City of Las Cruces family,” Pili said. “I’ve fallen in love with the city. … I’m coming to an all-star city, I’m excited to be a part of this team, this city.”
Pili’s contract as City Manager is for an indefinite period. As City Manager he is the only City employee hired by City Council.

Council members praised William F. Studer, Jr. and David Maestas for serving as interim City Managers since the position became vacant on April 22, 2019.
“We’ve had some amazing fill-ins,” Councilor Gabriel Vasquez said. “David Maestas has done a tremendous job.”
During Monday’s meeting, the council also adopted a resolution to establish new building permit fees charged by the City’s Community Development Department. Commercial building permit fees have not been increased in 14 years and the City’s costs of processing and issuing building permits has significantly increased.
