K - 12

While "Lush and Lean" landscaping is a principle component of the Phase 1 initiative to address summer outdoor irrigation demands, one should never underestimate the longterm impacts that  begins with the quick learning and behavioral modification capabilities of our community's youth.  As messengers of new behaviors and a fostering awareness  of waters life sustaining power in the face of  ever increasing demands, drought cycles, and pollution, children bring home the lessons of conservation ethics to other family members and joyfully take on the role of stewards and home monitors of  caring for their water and thus, their future. May we all continue to be good students.

Two principle resources  for teachers and students are available for the Las Cruces School District.  through the water conservation desk. Project Wet  for Middle and High School students and Rio, the Water Detective for Elementary classes. These programs consist of direct age appropriate activities for the classroom which cover a wide range of  critical water issues. These well developed and tested activities are  pre-approved  by the New Mexico Board of Education Benchmark & Standards. Teacher manuals, student workbooks, and teacher workshops are available free of charge.
