What is SCSWA?

The SCSWA is a government agency created in 1995 to manage the waste disposal facilities in Las Cruces. This was deemed necessary due to the new EPA sub-title D regulations that went into effect about the same time. These regulation require engineer designed facilities with liners, leachate collection systems and extensive environmental monitoring.

Hours of Operation

  • Transfer Station
    Monday - Friday
    7 AM to 5 PM, last load allowed in at 4:45pm.
    Saturday and Sunday 8 AM to 4 PM last load in at 3:45pm

  • Corralitos Landfill
    Monday - Thursday
    7 AM to 5 PM
    Friday and Saturdays by appointment only
    Closed Sunday

Fees

  • Transfer Station $30.70 per ton.

  • Minimum charge up to 200 lbs $4.20

  • Up to 400 lbs $7.88 (standard pick up truck)

  • Standard pick up with side boards $15.75

  • Anything else will be charge are the 30.70 per ton rate (prorated by the actual weight of the waste stream)

  • Landfill Charges are 24.80 per ton and vehicles going directly the to landfill must get a pass from the transfer station until the new scale is in operation early 2008.

Location

The Corralitos Landfill is located 15 miles west of Las Cruces off of the Corralitos Exit. Phone number of the landfill is 541 4025.

Permitted Waste Streams

The landfill is permitted to accept municipal solid waste as defined in the New Mexico Solid Waste Regulations 20 NMAC 9.1. For more information see www.nmenv.state.nm.us/swb/currentregs.htm. The only special waste permitted at this facility is municipal sludge that has an NMED approved management plan on file with SCSWA.

More Information

The requirements have raised the cost of sitting a waste facility as well as operating. The SCSWA in managed by a Board that consists of 3 City Councilors and 3 County Commissioners plus both City and County Managers. Daily operations are overseen by Patrick Peck, Director of SCSWA.
