Recycling / Solid Waste Services

The City of Las Cruces provides once a week residential solid waste service. All waste must be placed in the City-owned 96 or 64 gallon container. Solid Waste Section employees deliver the containers to you. If for some reason a second container is needed, the we will provide one for an additional monthly fee of $3.72. See the Rates page for a complete rates information.

Senior Citizen Discount

Seniors over 60 may be eligible for a Solid Waste senior citizen discount.  This discount is not applicable if you have more than one container.  You will need to go to the Customer Service Department in City Hall, located at 200 N. Church Street with a picture ID and show proof of age.  For further information, please call the Customer Service Department at 541-2111.

How Solid Waste Service Operates

On collection day, your container must be rolled to a flat surface. NOT THE SIDEWALK, at the curb or edge of the street with the handles and wheels pointing away from the street. Containers must be in place by 6:00 am and removed by 7:00 pm. To allow access by the automated equipment, containers should not be within six feet of parked vehicles, trees, mail boxes, etc.

The section's Recycling Center generates approximately $19,000 in revenue each month from 700 tons of recycliable material. The center and its six satellite centers accept newspeper, tin, aluminum, and corrugated cardboard. The Recycling Center also accepts #1 and #2 plastic, household hazardous waste, office paper, appliances and scrap metal, and tires. The Recycling Center also accepts approximately 500 tons of yard waste each month, which then is chipped and disposed or composted at the old landfill.
