Recycling Services

DROP OFF LOCATIONS
Newspaper, aluminum and corrugated cardboard are accepted at the following drop-off locations:

All Drop off areas other than the Sun News accept Newspaper, Corrugated Cardboard and Aluminum.  Foothills Landfill also accepts Plastics #1 and #2.

  3. FOOTHILLS LANDFILL, Old Landfill (accepts Plastics #1 and #2)

THE CITY RECYCLING CENTER
2855 W. Amador Ave., accepts the following recyclables:

  • NEWSPAPERS – no magazines
  • TELEPHONE BOOKS
  • ALUMINUM
  • CORRUGATED CARDBOARD (flattened) – and BROWN PAPER BAGS – No cereal boxes, discarded food containers or waxed produce boxes, please!
  • PLASTIC - #1 AND #2 – clear and translucent plastics include milk, water, and soda bottles.
  • COMPUTERS –( CPU) hard drives, printers, and keyboards. Will NOT accecpt CRT (Cathode Ray Tube)monitors. These can be disposed of in your trash receptacle or left for the grappler on your grappler service day.
  • STYROFOAM – no food containers or packing peanuts
  • OFFICE PAPER – white, photocopy, green bar, computer, and shredded paper are recycled.
  • HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE – household cleaners, pesticides, herbicides, motor oil, cooking oil, antifreeze, rechargeable and vehicle batteries, paints, stains, or any item considered ignitable, poisonous or corrosive.  Ammunition and medical waste are not accepted.
  • TIRES – a small surcharge is required, depending on size and quantity, to cover processing costs.
  • APPLIANCES and SCRAP METAL – stoves, dishwashers, refrigerators, water heaters, air conditioners, etc.

The City Recycling Program encourages businesses to recycle their Corrugated Cardboard and Office Paper.  For a $30.00 per month service fee per container type, the City Recycling Center will provide businesses with the following:

  • 6 (six) cubic yard containers for Corrugated Cardboard, newspapers or office paper.
  • There is NO ADDITIONAL CHARGE for each service of your Recycling Containers.

The city recycles grass, leaves, tree trimmings, and Christmas trees into compost.  Yard waste must be taken out of bags and no trash or dirt is accepted.

BUY RECYCLED!
Recycling is great for the environment! Go a step further to “close the loop” by making a commitment to purchase goods made from recyclables for your home and place of business.

Free compost mulch is available to residents.
Commercial quantities available for a fee.

FOOTHILLS LANDFILL

YARD WASTE DROP OFF CENTER
555 South Sonoma Ranch Blvd.
Monday – Friday, 8:00 am – 4:00 pm
Saturday, 9:00 am - 3:00 pm
Closed Sunday

Currently the Foothills Landfill also accepts clean fill; sod, bricks concrete, and uncontaminated dirt.

RECYCLING FACTS

  • Americans use 50 million tons of paper each year
  • Each person uses and discards two pine trees every year
  • Recycling a 4-foot stack of newspaper saves the energy and resources needed to harvest and process a 40-foot tree
  • The energy saved by recycling one aluminum can is equivalent to the energy used viewing three hours of TV
  • Americans throw away enough aluminum to rebuild the entire U.S. commercial air fleet every three months
