General Orders
No. 65

General orders No. 9, these headquarters, March 29, 1916, is rescinded and the following substituted therefor.

1. The Commanders of camps, trains and detachments of whatever size, will be held strictly responsible for the proper guarding and outposting of their commands, whether on the march or stationary. All permanent camps oc-cupied by detachments of a battalion or less will be properly entrenched.

2. All small parties, such as laborers, line repairer, road repairers etc., will, at all times, have proper lookout established so that they will not be surprised at their work.

3. No parties of less than ten men armed with rifles will be permitted to travel between any two stations on the line of cummunications, this applies to officers or others inspecting roads as well as the parties traveling to and from Columbus.

4. Whenever laboring parties, whether engineer or signal, are sent out from any camp, the camp commander will furnish enough extra men so that the entire party shall consist of a least ten men.

5. WAGON TRAINS AND THEIR GUARDS. No wagon train of less than twenty-five wagons will be sent out from either end of the line of communications, and all wagon trains must have their drivers armed with rifles, and, in addition, at least one guard armed with the rifle with each wagon so that all wagon trains will have at least fifty men armed with rifles as guard.

6. No motor truck trains of less than twelve motor trucks will be sent out from either end of the line of communications. All chauffeurs will be armed with the rifle. In addition there shall be one man armed with the rifle with each motor truck unless thereby the total number of guards and armed chauffeurs shall exceed fifty armed men. Ambulance trains of less than twelve ambulances will travel with truck trains.

7. Whenever trucks or wagons break down on the road, these trucks or wagons will be abandoned and the personnel - chauffeurs, drivers and guards - will be taken along with the main column, and in no case will a small detach-ment be left on the road with the broken down wagons or trucks. Every effort will be made to keep columns closed up to reasonable distances on the road.
