Volunteer at the Railroad Museum!
The Las Cruces Railroad Museum is seeking volunteers to lead tours, work at the reception desk, help with the model train layouts, and assist at special events.
Receptionist/Gallery Docents - greet visitors; provide information about our historic depot and the impact of the railroad on the Mesilla Valley; help run model trains; help staff with small projects. Railroad Museum staff will provide training and learning opportunities. Gallery Docents/Receptionists are needed for 2 or 3 hour shifts, Thursday, Fridays or Saturdays between 10:00 am and 4:00 pm. (Several positions available)
Model Train Technicians - aid museum staff in the operation and maintenance of the model trains and layouts, and help educate the public about the railroad’s impact on Las Cruces. Train technicians are needed for 3 hour shifts on Thursday, Friday, or Saturday between 10:00 am and 4:00 pm, or on an on-call or as needed basis. (Several positions available)
Special Events Assistants - prepare for and work during the museum’s annual events: Railroad Days in April/May and the Old-Fashioned Holiday Display in December. SE Assistants provide help with decorations, food, activities, as well as make our visitors feel welcome.
In addition to the positions listed above, we are constantly developing new volunteer roles to match your interests. We often have volunteers helping us with administrative operations, outreach programs, exhibitions and special research projects.
