Tours

The Las Cruces Museum of Natural History offers guided tours of exhibits to groups. 
Reservations are required for groups so that appropriate staffing is available to provide a
quality museum experience.  Please complete the reservation request form and submit a
minimum of two weeks in advance.

Nature Camp
Nature Camp is a summer science day camp where children learn about science and the
Chihuahuan Desert that surrounds Las Cruces through hands-on experiences and activities. These activities and adventures include crafts, experimentation, nature study, field trips, and
overnight camping for some age groups. Fees applicable. Limited enrollment!
 
 

Descubra el Desierto
This lecture series is for both adults and children interested in the natural history of the area.
Lectures are generally held on the third Tuesday of the month at 7 pm.  Contact the
museum for dates and topics.  Free.

 
 

Saturday Science Class
Hands-on science program for elementary school children, guaranteed to be a combination of fun and learning. Please  pre-register.  Free.

Girl Scout Events
The museum offers courses to Girl Scouts for merit badge credit. Must pre-register 1 week
before event. Minimum enrollment required. $10 fee per participant.

 
 

Scaly Slimy
Live animal program for children 3-10 yrs old, parents are encouraged to stay. The four-week program looks at toads, snakes, and lizards looking at their similarities and differences. Includes a field trip to a special desert site to find and view New Mexico’s wild animals. Saturdays at 10 am. Free.

Animal Encounters
Learn, see, and feel! A hands-on experience with the animals from the Chihuahuan Desert.   This program starts promptly at 4:00 pm.  Come and be part of the action.  Free.

Desert Treks
Field trips are offered from the museum. Expert instructors are provided, but you must
provide your own transportation.  Pre-registration required, space is limited. Fees may apply.
 
 
Science Cafe
Got questions? Ask them here.  Sigma Xi and the Las Cruces Museum of Natural History
partner to bring you monthly round table discussions.  Held at 5:30 pm, the last Thursday of
the month at the museum except when posted.  Free.
 
 

FETCH!™ & ClubFETCH!™
Have a dog-gone good time at the LCMNH’s newest program FETCH! with Ruff Ruffman ™. Based on the PBS television program FETCH!, our FETCH! Lab is a fun place to try science activities and games with our staff and junior docents.

  • Saturdays & Sundays 1:30pm - 3:30pm

ClubFETCH! ™ meets the last Friday of every month to actively explore areas of science and engineering through hands-on activities. Pre- registration is required and space is limited to 12 participants. ClubFETCH! members who attend at least 6 of the 10 classes will receive a Ruff Ruffman T-shirt! 5:30 pm - 6:30 pm. Free.
