Tours

The Las Cruces Museum of Art offers guided tours of exhibits to groups.  Reservations are
required for groups so that appropriate staffing is available to provide a quality museum
experience.  Please complete the reservation request form and submit a minimum of two
weeks in advance.

Reading Art Book Club

The Reading Art Book Club (RABC) is dedicated to exploring the connections between art and literature by reading and discussing books.  As much as possible, books selected will relate, echo, or enhance the museum’s varied exhibitions.

Meetings are at 2:30 the second Wednesday of every month at the Museum of Art.

Saturday Studio - Every Saturday
Children, ages 5-12, enjoy creating take-home artworks using different techniques and
mediums. Studio projects may include mixed media, painting, printmaking, and drawing.
Some projects, such as ceramics, will need to be picked up at a later date.

Saturday Studio Ends May 15

 
Drawing & Painting
This program develops and strengthens the skills needed to create imaginative projects and render natural forms. Mediums include pencil, colored pencil, pastel, watercolor and acrylic paints.

The ceramics studio program combines all facets of working with clay-- hand skills, design, form, function, painting, and fun. Children explore! All pieces are glazed and fired.

Art Classes for Adults
 
Drawing
The bones of good design and composition begin with a sound foundation of drawing techniques. Students will develop their two-dimensional vocabulary by working on color theory and using dry mediums.
 
Drawing
 
Watercolor / Pastels
This class allows students to work with watercolors and/or pastels. Students will explore techniques and develop skills creating still-life studies, landscapes, etc. Bring any materials you have and a materials list will be provided. Previous drawing experience or classes strongly suggested.
 
Pastels
 
Painting with Oils
This class will focus on painting with oils using various traditional methods. Students will
work toward realism, learning techniques used by classical painters. A materials list will be
provided on the first day of class.
 
Ceramics
Classes concentrate on wheel-throwing various forms. Enough clay and glazes are provided for student projects. Additional clay, glazes, tools, and firing fees may be applicable.

Sculpture
Students will learn to sculpt an artwork of their choice; portrait, animal, figure, or fantasy.
Emphasis will be on clay construction techniques and creative interpretation. All pieces will
be fired.
 
Weaving
Class will cover basic design and planning a project, warping, and various weave structures. Floor looms will be used. Tuition includes use of looms during museum studio hours. Basic yarns are included.

Intro to Digital Photography
Hands-on digital photo class will teach you how to take better photos. Through lectures and photo assignments, you will learn about basic camera operations, shooting techniques, composition, and lighting.

Digital Photography
Just got a camera and want to learn the basics? Get an overview in this one-day, crash
course.
 
Intermediate/Advanced Digital Photography
For amateurs and aspiring pros who want to improve shooting techniques and learn about
digital photo manipulation. Explore digital photography as a creative medium using
Photoshop, iPhoto, and other software programs.
