Art and Education

The Las Cruces Museum of Art is located in downtown Las Cruces, NM, an area that is currently in the midst of a major revitalization project.  Serving as anchors in a cultural corridor, all City of Las Cruces Museums are ADA accessible and there are no entry fees.

The Museum of Art began hosting exhibitions in the year 2000.  Featuring contemporary art in over 4000 sq. ft. of gallery space, displays change several times a year and include national, international, juried, traveling, and invitational exhibits.  The exhibitions are complemented by educational programming that includes lectures, musical performances, demonstrations, and guided tours.  With professional art instructors, the thriving studio arts program serves students of all ages and is a point of departure for the study of topics such as ceramics, drawing, painting, digital photography, weaving, and mixed-media studies.

The Museum of Art has a growing permanent collection of contemporary artworks that support the mission of the Museum.  With works by artists of international and national significance, the Museum of Art places an emphasis on collecting works from those artists who work or practice in the greater southwest and border regions.  The collection includes but is not limited to paintings, sculptures, photographs, ceramics, and mixed-media works.

Given the community’s cultural heritage and its diverse audience, the Las Cruces Museum of Art works to provide well-rounded exhibits that attract and inform visitors while providing them with exciting educational opportunities.

Mission Statement:  The Las Cruces Museum of Art strives to engage and inspire its diverse audience through contemporary art exhibitions, public programming, and educational activities.
