Electronic Audio Books Now Available at Branigan Library

-- Monday, May 18, 2009 at 15:53
The City of Las Cruces Branigan Library announces that electronic audio books or eAudiobooks are now available through the library’s website at library.las-cruces.org.

There will be two informational sessions on eAudiobooks on May 27th from 9-10am and May 28th from 1-2pm. Registration is required and begins on May 18th. Patrons may register online on the library’s event calendar, in-person or over the phone by calling 528-4014, 528-4026 or 528-4005.

eAudiobooks allows residents to have access to more than 2,000 different eAudiobook titles at anytime, anywhere! eAudiobooks are books that have been read aloud and recorded from notable authors, such as Alexander McCall Smith, Ann Ross and Michael McGarrity. A popular format in many libraries, eAudiobooks allow library users to listen to materials on-the-go.

They can be checked out from the library or from a personal computer via the library’s website, 24/7. Users may check out up to 10 eAudiobooks at a time, and they are automatically returned to the library at the end of the checkout period. They can be downloaded or played on any desktop, laptop or portable device that supports Windows Media Player version 9 and above. More than 900 MP3 files are also available to iPod users.

“Audiobooks, in the form of cassettes and CDs, have been popular in libraries for many years,” said Kathleen Teaze, Library Administrator of Thomas Branigan Memorial Library. “The ability to download eAudiobooks from the web is being embraced by long-time listeners as well as new listeners who want material for their portable media devices.” The eAudiobooks database has been made possible through a generous donation from The Friends of Thomas Branigan Memorial Library.
