committee or council upon which members appointed by the Mayor or

Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Advisory Board -
Provides periodic reports to the City Council on policies and programs
that will allow the city to meet the requirements of the ADA. Provides
recommendations to the City Council on ways the city can help improve
the lifestyle of disabled residents. Meets from 4 to 6 p.m. on
the third Tuesday of each month.
Airport Advisory Board - Advises the City Council
or makes specific recommendations involving policy matters pertinent
to airport operations. Meets at noon on the first Thursday of each
month at the Airport.
Board of Adjustment - Holds monthly public meetings
to hear requests for variances or interpretation of the zoning
code. Has the power to approve or deny a variance to the Las Cruces
Zoning Code, Landscaping Code and to the Las Cruces Sign Code.
Meet at 5:45 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month at City Hall.
Cable TV Compliance Commission - Coordinates
programming requests, hears complaints, proposes cable ordinance
changes to the City Council, conducts public hearings at request
of City Council or concerning proposed rate increases, and conducts
periodic reviews of grantee’s performance.
Capital Improvements Advisory Committee - Advises
and assists the city in adopting land use assumptions, reviews
the capital improvements plan, monitors and evaluates implementation
of the capital improvements plan, and advises the city regarding
growth management strategies.
Committee on Aging - Advises City Council by
collecting data, analyzing needs, investigating and recommending
programs, avoiding duplication of programs and making recommendations
to meet the needs of older citizens.
Convention and Visitors Bureau Advisory Board -
Advises the City Council on the expenditure of lodgers’ tax
funds for promoting tourist attractions. Assists bureau in establishing
long-range goals and objectives.
Environmental Quality Advisory Committee - Consists
of scientists who serve as a resource group on environmental issues
for the City Council.
Board of Ethics - A seven-member standard board
appointed by the mayor and city councillors for the purpose of
enforcing the code of ethics ordinance adopted for all public officers
of the city government, whether elected or appointed, paid or unpaid.
The board meets at the call of the chair.
ETZ Authority - City and county appointed members
for growth management, zoning and subdivision administration to
the ETZ area, the five-mile extra-territorial zone of the city.
Meets at 5 p.m. the third Wednesday of every month
ETZ Commission - City and county appointed members
review and recommend zoning and subdivision changes, and recommend
ordinance revisions to the ETZ Authority. Meets the first and third
Thursdays of every month at the Dona Ana County Courthouse, Commission
Chambers (second floor), 251 W. Amador Ave.
Fourth of July Committee - Coordinates events
for the city’s Fourth of July celebration.
Housing Authority - Holds annual meetings on
even-numbered years. Conducts the business and operation of the
municipal housing project and investigates any problem relating
thereto.
Keep Las Cruces Beautiful Committee - Committed
to enhancing the quality of life in Las Cruces through its beautification
and environmental education programs. The programs include litter
control, graffiti abatement, beautification and environmental education.
Meets at noon on the first Tuesday of each month.
Library Advisory Board - Advises the City Council
on library matters. Meets at 2 p.m. on the fourth Thursday of each
month at Branigan Library, 200 E. Picacho Ave.
Mayor’s Youth Advisory Board - Recommends
considerations and courses of action to the mayor on public policy
issues that could pertain to young adults and children, or that
need input by young adults. The board also works on local programs
that increase the public awareness of youth issues.
Metropolitan Planning Organization - The MPO
Policy Committee oversees regional transportation planning within
the Las Cruces urban area.
Mesilla Valley Economic Development Alliance (MVEDA) -
A public-private partnership economic development agency, including the City of Las
Cruces, Dona Ana County, New Mexico State University, White Sands
Missile Range, Greater Las Cruces Chamber of Commerce, and the Hispano
Chamber of Commerce.
Meets at 11:30 a.m. on the first Tuesday of each month. Offices at 505 South Main #134. (525-2852).
Mesilla Valley Regional Dispatch Authority (MVRDA) -
Board is the Joint Powers Agreement (JPA) governing board for the
Mesilla Valley Regional Dispatch Center. MVRDA is the combined
9-1-1 dispatch center for the City of Las Cruces and Doña
Ana County. It answers 9-1-1 calls and dispatches all law enforcement,
fire and ambulance services. The board oversees the activities
of the dispatch center.
Parks and Recreation Advisory Board - Makes recommendations
to the staff and director, as well as to the City Council, on policy
issues and the naming of department areas and facilities. Meets
at 7 p.m. on the fourth Monday of the month at Branigan Library.
Personnel Appeals Board - Hears personnel appeals
except those grievances which deal with hiring or firing. Makes
recommendations to the city manager for non-represented employees.
Planning and Zoning Commission - Reviews the
zoning, planning and platting of the city, investigates any problem
relating thereto and makes recommendations to the City Council.
Meets at 6 p.m. the fourth Tuesday of each month at City Hall.
Rio Grande Natural Gas Association - Acquires,
constructs, maintains, manages and operates a natural gas supply
and distribution system within Doña Ana County. The board
of directors has the power to make and alter by-laws or rules and
regulations for the management and operation of the work of the
association and the control and conduct of its business and affairs.
RSVP Advisory Board - Advises and assists the
city with the implementation of the RSVP project and advises and
assists the RSVP staff to implement their objective.
Selection Advisory Committee - Consists of city
staff members who review professional and technical services for
the city.
Senior Programs Advisory Council - Advises the
program sponsor regarding planning of the program, continuing support,
assistance, and advice on significant decisions and actions.
Sister Cities Foundation (for Lerdo and Neinburg) -
Promotes and encourages private and public programs to further
the development of greater friendship and understanding between
the people of Las Cruces and cities of other nations. Provides
policy guidance for the sponsorship of cultural, social, educational
and economic activities which further community friendship. Meets
at least twice a year.
South Central Solid Waste Authority - A joint
city-county financial venture which owns the Corralitos Regional
Landfill and the Transfer and Recycling Facility. The Authority,
which was funded by a $10.5 million bond issued in October 1995,
is operated as an enterprise fund and no tax dollars were used
for the facilities construction. It is governed by a board of six
elected officials –- three city councilors and three county
commissioners -- with the city and county managers acting as ex-officio
members. Meets at 9 a.m. on the third Wednesday of each month at
the Authority’s administrative offices, 2865 W. Amador Ave.
Technical Advisory Committee - Comprised of staff
members from each city division who review computer and networking
information and needs. Meets the first Thursday of each month.
Transit Advisory Board - Reviews the business
and operations of the transit program, investigates any problems
relating thereto, and ensures that the City Council is apprised
of transit matters.
University Avenue Corridor - Serves as an advisory
board to the city to help ensure that the development standards
of the UAC Overlay Zone District are met. Meets the first Wednesday
of each month at City Office Center, 575 S. Alameda Blvd.
Veteran’s Affairs Advisory Board - Provides
liaison and support from the mayor to veterans and veterans organizations.
Meets at 1 p.m. on the fourth Tuesday of each month at City Hall.
West Mesa Strategic Planning Committee -
Consists of three city councilors, the city manager and a representative of the Mesilla Valley Economic Development Alliance who review
a variety of issues, including land sale proposals, infrastructure
pricing, land use and infrastructure plans and marketing strategies
