Firefighting involves extremely hard and skilled physical work, as well as handling emergency, life-or-death situations. The physical and mental demands of firefighting are sometimes underestimated. Because of this, many applicants are overwhelmed by the challenging examination process.

To qualify for the entrance process an applicant must satisfy the following requirements:

* Must be at least 18 years of age by the start date of the academy.
* Must have a high school diploma or GED.
* Must possess the mental, physical, and medical health to adequately perform the duties of a firefighter.
* Must have a valid driver's license.
