Celebrating a Century of Service

Fire Department Receives New Airport Crash Truck

The Las Cruces Fire Department recently took delivery of its newest piece of fire apparatus, Crash-7. The unit is a state-of-the-art aircraft rescue firefighting vehicle that will be based at the Las Cruces International Airport fire station.

Crash-7 enhances the department’s response to aircraft related emergencies at the airport.

The apparatus is equipped with a 665 horsepower engine, 1,850 gallon per minute pump, 1,500 gallon water tank, 500 pounds of dry chemical extinguishing agent, and 200 gallons of foam concentrate. The apparatus is also outfitted with a special firefighting nozzle that can penetrate the skin of an aircraft to reach fires within a planes cabin.

The unit was purchased with a combination of federal, state, and municipal funds totaling $625,000. Crash-7 replaces a 1976 Oshkosh crash truck and a 1975 Chevrolet pickup truck equipped with a dry chemical extinguishing system.
