Museum of Nature & Science “STEAMpunk – Mary Anning, Paleontologist” 2019

The Museum of Nature and Science, 411 N. Main St., presents, “STEAMpunk – Mary Anning” at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, January 19, 2019. The program is free to the public. The content and activities are intended for ages 7 to 12 but the event is open to all.

Did you know New Mexico used to be under water? Explore local paleontology and learn about the first professional woman paleontologist, Mary Anning. As a young girl, Anning began exploring the fossil beds near her home and developed her skills while still in her teens. Those who attend the event will learn about her discoveries and get hands-on experience with marine fossils from our area.

“STEAMpunk” is offered monthly and highlights the work of a historic scientist through hands-on exploration.

The museum is open from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, and 9 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Saturday. For information, visit the City’s Museum System website or call 575/522-3120.
