Police Warn of Scam “Donation” Calls 2019

Las Cruces police would like to remind residents to be cautious of scam telephone calls seeking supposed “donations” for City projects or the police department.

LCPD has learned of such calls, some possibly automated, that seek monetary donations to the City’s Parks and Recreation Department or to the Las Cruces Police Department.

No City of Las Cruces department will ever call residents or businesses seeking such monetary donations. Furthermore, the City has no automated telephone calls seeking donations.

Anyone who receives such a call should simply hang up, and refrain from providing any personal or financial information. Residents should refrain from providing personal or financial information to anyone unless their authenticity has been verified.

Any person who has been victimized by such a scam – someone who has lost money or otherwise become a victim of such a scam – can file a police report by calling (575) 526-0795.
