April Book Club 2018
The Las Cruces Museum of Art’s Reading Art Book Club will meet at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 11 at the Las Cruces Museum of Nature and Science, 411 N. Main St.
The April book selection is “The Art of Rivalry: Four Friendships, Betrayals, and Breakthroughs in Modern Art,” by Sebastian Smee. Prior to the meeting, at 1:30 p.m. April 11, the documentary video “Matisse-Picasso” will be shown.
In “The Art of Rivalry: Four Friendships, Betrayals, and Breakthroughs in Modern Art,” Smee, a Pulitzer Prize-winning art critic, tells the story of four pairs of artists – Manet and Degas, Picasso and Matisse, Pollock and de Kooning, and Freud and Bacon – whose fraught, competitive friendships spurred them to new creative heights. Each of these relationships culminated in an early flashpoint, followed by a rupture in a budding intimacy that was both a betrayal and a trigger for great innovation.
Reading Art Book Club meetings are free and open to the public. Join us even if you haven’t read the book! For information, or for details on book selections, contact Joy Miller, at 575/541-2221, or email her at: email@example.com.
