Unveiling of Mural Art Project will be July 7th, 2018

The City of Las Cruces Parks & Recreation Department invites the public to the unveiling of a mural art project, at 2 p.m. July 7, at the East Mesa Recreation Center, 5589 Porter Drive.

The painting of the mural was a six-week program involving youth artists. All artwork was created by youth, participating in every step of the process with the direction of Recreation Programs staff.

The mural spans the walls of the East Mesa Recreation Center multi-use room, which is utilized for various sports and activities. The importance of the artwork is to bring life to the facility and showcase the vision and passion of local youth artists. Public art work such as murals enhance property values, inspire and energize, encourage artistic opportunities, decrease vandalism, eliminate graffiti, beautify, and unite communities.

The event will include the unveiling of the artwork, comments from youth artists and staff involved with the mural program. People attending the unveiling will have the opportunity to visit with the artists.
