Water Outage Downtown 2018
Homes and businesses in an area between Alameda Avenue to Campo Street, and Bowman Avenue to Mountain Avenue, may experience low water pressure, or discolored water, and a few could have no water, beginning at 9 p.m. today, Feb. 28, until 3 a.m. Thursday, March 1.
The City of Las Cruces Water Section will be replacing a section of water line on Water Street, between west Las Cruces Avenue and west Griggs Avenue. The work is related to the Church Water Conversion project and is being done in preparation of water line connections to be completed by Morrow Construction, Inc.
City officials have already begun contacting utilities customers who will be affected.
Also, a portion of north Water Street, between Las Cruces and Griggs avenues, was closed Wednesday to traffic and will remain closed through tomorrow. Access to residences and businesses will be maintained, but motorists should seek an alternate route to avoid possible delays.
Residents and businesses in the affected area could notice discolored water due to iron and manganese deposits. Although the water is safe to drink, City officials recommend waiting for the water to clear before washing laundry.
The discoloration should disappear within 24 hours. If it does not, outside or cold-water faucets should be flushed for five minutes. If the discoloration remains, call the City, at 575/526-0500, for assistance. The TTY number, for people who are hearing impaired, is 575/541-2182.
