Meals for Kids and Teens Now Offered Through Partnership 2018
The City of Las Cruces Parks & Recreation Department Youth Services Out-of-School Time programs has partnered with Families & Youth, Inc. At-Risk After School Meals Program and the Las Cruces Public Schools to provide a nutritional meal and snack for more than 300 participants.
The Out-of-School Time programs operates weekdays from the time youth get out of school and continues as late as 8 p.m. The programs are formal and structured opportunities for school-aged youth, which complements the regular school day with recreational, educational, nutritional, and civic engagement activities. Eight program sites are at LCPS elementary schools, and two other sites are City facilities: A. Fielder Memorial Safe Haven, 906 N. Tornillo St., and the Juvenile Citation Program Learning Center, 890 N. Tornillo St.
Out-of-School Time programs that serve meals and snacks draw children and teenagers into constructive activities that are safe, fun, and filled with learning opportunities. The food gives them the nutrition they need to learn and grow.
