Arbor Day Tree Planting 2018
When J. Sterling Morton founded Arbor Day back in 1872, his idea was simple - set aside a special day for tree planting, and today that idea is more important than ever. A tree planting in Ponderosa Park will mark the City’s celebration of Arbor Day, at 9 a.m. on Friday, April 27. Mayor Ken Miyagishima, J. Sterling Morton portrayed by Dr. John Mexal, and the City’s Tree Steward volunteers will plant two trees, as a way to celebrate the importance of trees in our community. Neighbors of Ponderosa Park and residents of Las Cruces are invited to participate in the celebration of Arbor Day by joining in on the tree planting. Ponderosa Park is located at 1505 Branding Iron Circle.
“Each generation takes the earth as trustees. We ought to bequeath to posterity as many forests and orchards as we have exhausted and consumed.” J Sterling Morton
