LCFD Technical Rescue Team Members to be Recognized at Aggie Game 2017

The six members of the Las Cruces Fire Department’s Technical Rescue Team (TRT) who assisted with rescue and relief operations in the Houston area in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey will be recognized during a first half break in the Aggie/Troy game Saturday, Sept. 16, at Aggie Memorial Stadium. The game begins at 6 p.m.

“Our motto at the City of Las Cruces is People Helping People – and these six TRT members lived that saying as they helped storm victims in desperate need of assistance. They gave of themselves so others could survive,” said Mayor Ken Miyagishima.

“We want to show our appreciation to these local heroes for their selfless service to those in such great need. My thanks to the NMSU Athletics Director Mario Moccia and Assistant Athletics Director DJ Downs for their overwhelming support of this initiative,” said City Manager Stuart C. Ed.

The TRT members to be recognized are Lt. Joe Leos, Lt. Tibor Kocsis, Battalion Chief Jeremiah Lay, Firefighter Arnold Diaz, Driver/Operator Jeremy Eckhart and Firefighter Michael Graham.

Scheduled to join the firefighters and their families on the field during a first half break are Mayor Ken Miyagishima, City Manager Stuart C. Ed, and Las Cruces Fire Chief Eric Enriquez.

The TRT members are certified in swift water rescue and were assigned to Texas Task Force 2, an urban search and rescue team. They conducted operations in Fort Bend County, Southwest of the city of Houston. The team took a trailer with swift water rescue gear, water and meals ready to eat.

They deployed Aug. 28 and returned Sept. 3.
