City Council “Very Pleased” With City Manager’s Performance 2017

The Las Cruces City Council today conducted its first performance evaluation of City Manager Stuart C. Ed since he became city manager Nov. 7, 2016, and Mayor Ken Miyagishima said City Council is“very pleased” with Ed’s performance.

“Considering this is his first time as city manager, he is doing a fantastic job. I am extremely happy and impressed with Stuart’s performance,” said Miyagishima. “He has immersed himself into the position and has undertaken numerous projects to improve the organization and move it forward.”

Highlights of Ed’s accomplishments are the facilitation of a new, five-year strategic plan and mission statement; the creation of a new Economic Development Department and Neighborhood Action Team; the transition to a performance-based model; securing the services of a grant company to increase revenues through grant funding; successful development of the Fiscal Year 2017/2018 budget; and increasing transparency through ongoing consultation with the New Mexico Foundation for Open Government.

“I look forward to increased communication between Stuart and City Council and our continued, positive association for years to come,” Miyagishima added.

As city manager, Ed is the City Council’s sole employee. All other City employees report to the city manager. Currently, Ed oversees 1,434 full-time employees and an adopted fiscal year 2017-2018 budget of $381,540,642.
