Concert Time Change

With recent daytime temperatures above 100 degrees and an expected high of 109 tomorrow (June 22nd), the City of Las Cruces Parks & Recreation Department is changing the start time for the “Thursday Night Music on the Plaza” concert..

Tomorrow night’s concert with the Coolside Collective will begin at 8 p.m. at the Plaza de Las Cruces . The Coolside Collective will play a selection of funky jazz standards and energetic jazz originals featuring Mc’s, St. Nobody and Dom Breezy.

Enjoy a cool night of jazz and hip hop after a hot summer day. Food vendors will be at the event. All “Thursday Night Music on the Plaza” events are free, family friendly events..

Park Closure

Albert Johnson Park will be closed for construction June 21, 2017 till December 31, 2017.


Youth Scholarship Fund Accepting Applications

The City of Las Cruces Parks & Recreation Department will accept applications for the Youth Scholarship Fund for youth programs and activities presented through June 2017. Interested applicants must submit their application at the Parks & Recreation Administrative Office, 1501 E. Hadley Ave. Find out more!


Couch to One

The City of Las Cruces Parks & Recreation Department is offering a class for anybody who wants to start a fitness journey. Couch to One is a running and fitness class for beginners. By the end of the eight-week program, participants will be running one-mile and feeling great. The class will meet Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 - 7 p.m., April 25 through June 15. Participants must have a good pair of running shoes, comfortable clothing, and enthusiasm to get those feet going. Couch to One will be offered at the Frank O’Brien Papen Community Center, 304 W. Bell Ave. The fee is $32 per participant and space is limited. For more information call 575/541-2455.

Registration begins April 19 at the following locations during normal hours of operation:

  • Parks and Recreation Administrative office, 1501 E. Hadley Ave. – Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Fridays, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Frank O’Brien Papen Community Center, 304 W. Bell Ave. – Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.
  • Meerscheidt Recreation Center, 1600 E. Hadley Ave. – Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Saturdays 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

2017 Summer Program Lottery Registration - UPDATED INFORMATION

The City of Las Cruces Parks & Recreation Department will be accepting lottery registration applications for both sessions of the Summer Recreation Programs beginning Monday, April 17, thru Saturday, April 29, 2017. See more information here.


Metro Verde Splash Pad to Reopen for Spring Break Week

The City of Las Cruces Parks & Recreation Department will reopen the splash pad at the Metro Verde Splash Pad Park, 7125 Metro Park St. (across the street from Monte Vista Elementary School), for Spring Break week, Monday through Sunday, March 20 – 26, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. The splash pad will remain open thereafter on weekends only, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. The splash pad will re-open for the summer in May 2017.

Reuse & Recycle Fashion Show

In honor of Earth Day, Keep Las Cruces beautiful is hosting the fifth annual Reuse and Recycle Fashion Show, which presents outfits made from reused and recycled materials. Currently seeking participants of all ages. All welcomed for free to enjoy the show. Find out more!


Youth Mural Arts Program

The City of Las Cruces Parks & Recreation Department announces the start of a Mural Arts Program for local youth, grades 7– 12. The program is currently seeking teens with artistic ability and a desire to transform their community. Participants will become part of a skilled team capable of producing high quality public art.
