Public Works


The Department of Public Works is responsible for the construction, renovation, and operation of the City's infrastructure. The Department builds the City's streets, installs its water lines, gas lines, sewers and storm drains, constructs public buildings and service facilities, builds and maintains roads and streets, and installs and maintains the City’s street lights and traffic signals.

The Department provides vital City services through six major program areas: Contract Administration, Engineering Services, Project Development, Traffic, Street Services and Land Management. It is comprised of a staff of 109 employees who design, execute operate and maintain public projects from streets, sidewalks, traffic signals and bridges. The Department of Public Works has remained focused on resolving the transportation, drainage and lighting infrastructure issues and challenges to ensure the uninterrupted everyday conveniences that result in a better quality of life for the citizen’s of Las Cruces.
