What is Books By Mail?

With rising gas prices and greater demands on our time, it's often difficult to get to the library. Books by Mail allows patrons to request library materials and have these items mailed to their homes.

Who can use it?

Any resident of Dona Ana County with a valid library card can use Books by Mail.

What does it cost me to use?

Nothing! Books by Mail is free to our patrons.

How do I choose books to be delivered?

There are two ways. First, you can call the Books by Mail department (575-528-4010) and request your titles, or you can go online to the Library catalog and put holds on the titles you want. When the system asks you where you want to pick them up, choose the 'Books by Mail' option.

Is Books By Mail replacing the Homebound Service?

No. Books by Mail is a separate program. If you are currently a Homebound patron and want to use Books by Mail, you must sign up.

What materials can I request?

All circulating materials available through the library, such as books, audiobooks, music CDs and DVDs.

What are my limits?

The same as the regular library. No more than four DVDs or CDs out at one time, magazines are limited to four out at one time, a maximum of 30 items can be checked out at any one time.

When are items due back?

Videos and music check out for 2 weeks to allow for mailing time. Books and audio books check out for 3 weeks.

What are the fines?

The same as the regular library. $0.10 a day for books and magazines, $0.50 a day for videos and audio books.

Simple! Call the Books by Mail department at 575-528-4010, or print out this form and mail it in.
