Where are the public computers located?

The Public Computer Lab is located in the room to the right of the double doors as you first enter the library.

What are the computer hours?

What programs are available on the computers?

We offer Microsoft Office 2007 software applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access and Internet Explorer, as well as electronic database resources. Educational games are also available on the Children's computers in the Childrens' area of the library.

The Library's computers accept 3.5" floppy discs, CDs and flash (USB port) drives. Select computers have CD burners. Please ask a Computer Tech if you need to write files onto a CD.

Our Library's collection is available online via the online public access catalog (OPAC). OPAC terminals are located in the reference area, the Children's and Young Adult areas and Media. The OPAC can be searched using titles, authors, subjects or keywords.

Can I reserve a computer?

Computers are available on a first come/first serve basis. If all the computers are full, patrons have the option of making a reservation using the SAM system kiosk. Patrons are responsible for checking their status on the reservation list. The system gives patrons 5 minutes to sign on to their assigned computer. If, after 5 minutes, the patron does not sign on, the computer is assigned to another person. Library staff will not monitor reservations.

Can I print from the computers?

Computer users get the first 5 pages free. Each page thereafter is charged $0.10 per page. If you wish to print, you must place money on your library card prior to printing. The system will not allow a credit to be extended.

Is there a time limitation on the computers?

Computer use is limited to one hour per day.

The Library provides two computers with word processing software, printing capabilities and no time limit for those who require a computer for writing papers or other documents. These computers have limited capabilities and no internet access.

What do I need to use a computer?

In order to sign into a computer, users must enter thier library card number and their pin/password. If the pin/password has been forgotten, the library assistant may retreive it with a photo ID.

Out of town guests are allowed one guest pass per day to access the public computers. Inquire with the lab assistant inside the computer lab.

Does the library have computers for children?

Computers for chilren are located in the Children's area of the library. These computers contain educational games for children under the age of 11 years old.

Does the library offer wireless access?

Thomas Branigan Memorial Library provides free, unfiltered wireless access to the internet for the public to use with their personal netbooks, laptops and other mobile devices. Library is not responsible for damage to a patron’s personal netbook, laptop or other mobile device or for any loss of data, damage or liability that may result from the use of the Library’s wireless network.

Library staff can provide some general assistance for connecting personal devices to the wireless network. However, staff will not troubleshoot problems arising from the personal device’s hardware or software configurations.

Users must be aware that wireless connections are not secure. Users who choose to transmit personal information over the wireless network do so at their own risk. The Library disclaims any liability for the loss of confidential information or from damages resulting from that loss.

Patrons who use the wireless network are bound by the same rules of conduct that govern the use of public access computers and internet connections in the Library.
