FAQs

Do you offer vaccinations?

No. Unfortunately, we do not currently offer vaccinations at this time for the pets of the general public, unless it is in conjunction with our Affordable Pet Sterilization program. The ASCMV’s Medical staff will administer vaccinations, including anti-rabies, parvo/distemper booster, and/or general cat vaccines, for pets that have been admitted into the Affordable Pet Sterilization program.

If you are interested in our Affordable Pet Sterilization program, please contact the ASCMV at (575) 382-0018.

My dog/cat is really sick. Can I bring him/her in to see what’s wrong?

We do not currently offer general veterinary services to members of the general public. If your personal pet appears to be sick, please take him or her to your local Veterinarian as soon as possible.

If you are currently fostering an ASCMV animal under the regular Foster program or under the Foster-to-Adopt program, and he or she appears to be sick, please contact the ASCMV as soon as possible at (575) 382-0018, or for after-hours emergencies, contact Central Dispatch at (575) 526-0795, and be sure to advise the dispatcher that your pet is an ASCMV foster. The dispatcher will put you in contact with our on-call medical personnel.

There’s a loose animal in my yard. Can you come and get it?

The ASCMV is an Animal Sheltering agency separate from the local Animal Control departments. If you need assistance with an Animal Control issue, please contact Central Dispatch at (575) 526-0795 and the dispatcher will send out the appropriate Animal Control agency to assist you as soon as possible.

My dog/cat got out of my yard. Can you tell me if it’s there?

If you are missing a pet, you must come to the ASCMV and tour the facility in person to search for your pet. The ASCMV receives on average approximately 40 animals each day, and each person’s description of those animals may vary greatly, so it is best to visually identify your missing pet in person. The ASCMV will use any identification tags found on an animal received by the shelter in order to contact the owner as soon as possible, but again, we strongly encourage you to visit the facility in person.
