Senior Nutrition Program
Meal Reservation Line 575-528-3012
The City of Las Cruces Senior Nutrition Program offers Congregate and Home Delivered Meals. We provide wholesome mid-day meals to seniors 60 years of age and older and their spouses for a suggested donation of $2.50. Those age 59 years and below are able to eat as a guest for the price of $7.50. Our Mission is to provide our guests with nutritious, appetizing meals at our Congregate Meal locations or to deliver the same meal to them through the Home Delivered Meal program.
All meals meet federal and state guidelines which are reviewed and approved by a Registered Dietitian to ensure they provide the minimum 1/3 of the daily nutrients and calories as defined by the United States Department of Agriculture. Meals are prepared with no sodium, fat, or sugar added to them. Check out this month's menu or the Senior Messenger newsletter and reserve your meal today.
Congregate meals are served at five locations: Munson, Benavidez, Eastside, Frank O’Brien Papen Center and Sage Café. Meals are served from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm with the exception of Sage Café, which serves from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays only.
Please call our reservation line at (575) 528-3012 by 1:00 pm the day before you want to eat. You can email your meal reservations to firstname.lastname@example.org. New consumers can download and print an Eligible Visitor Intake Form (short form) to start the registration process for Congregate Meals. The short form is intended for consumers who want to try out the meals, or who are visiting from out-of-town. For continued service, a full registration form must be completed by a Case Manager at the meal site. Stop by any of our centers for more information. We look forward to serving you.
Home Delivered meals are available to eligible seniors who qualify. Individuals must be homebound, live inside the city limits, unable to participate in the congregate meal program because of an impairment or lack of transportation, unable to obtain and prepare a nutritious meal and lack a family support system. A Case Manager must determine eligibility for all potential homebound clients during a home visit assessment. The meals that are served to homebound seniors are the same meal that are prepared and served at the Congregate Meal sites. Homebound clients receive a cold breakfast in addition to the noon meal. The suggested donation for Home Delivered Meals is $3.00 for both meals. Weekend frozen meals are available for those who qualify. For more information, please call (575) 541-2301.
FOOD 4 PAWS PROGRAM: Senior Nutrition provides pet care assistance for our home delivered clients. With a mini-grant made possible by Meals on Wheels America, food donations from Action Program for Animals and support from the City of Las Cruces; Senior Nutrition helps keep our senior citizens and their pets together by easing the financial impediments to proper pet care. Food 4 Paws is able to provide pet food, veterinary care, grooming and boarding for our homebound client’s pets.
Most homebound individuals are somewhat isolated from the outside world. For these people owning a pet can be especially meaningful. It provides companionship, diversion and even a reason for living. The daily responsibilities of pet ownership can be difficult. Food 4 Paws provides pet food, free of charge, to the dogs and cats of homebound older Americans.
