Facilities Management

The Facilities Management Section is responsible for providing quality customer service while implementing the overall operations and maintenance strategy for City buildings and grounds. Part of that responsibility is ensuring citizens can complete their daily interactions with City staff safely and efficiently. Together, 42 dedicated employees in five functional areas collectively maintain over 1,000,000 square feet of building space spread across 100+ buildings while providing support to over 100 park sites throughout the City. The four functional areas are supported by staff in the following sections:

Administration provides direction, support, and coordination for Building Operations & Services, Building Systems & Maintenance, and Custodial Services to make sure their processes operate smoothly and efficiently.

Building Operations & Services provides support to all City departments through various operations that includes work order processing, building inspections, site maintenance coordination, mail/shipping/receiving services, and City Hall pooled vehicle checkout. In addition, our staff provides contract administration for other services to maintain and support our customers and buildings to keep them operating in a safe and efficient manner. These include copiers, security, pest control, locks, interior finishes, furnishings, window washing, fire extinguisher inspections, fire sprinkler inspections, elevator inspections, and many other support and life safety services and contracts. We also provide limited assistance to those entities that lease buildings from the City.

Building Systems & Maintenance Services is responsible for maintenance of (including preventative activities) of City-owned facilities. This function is made up of four shops including electrical, plumbing, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC), and carpentry/general maintenance. Collectively, this wide range of skilled trade professionals keeps all of our facilities maintained in a safe and efficient manner. Contractors are also used to provide support in these areas to help improve the response time and address critical issues.

Custodial Services is responsible for the cleaning and detailing of our City buildings, along with contracted services to keep them safe and presentable to citizens and staff.

We employ "Green" practices in all aspects of our maintenance and operations as part of our long-term strategy. In the long run, the City anticipates having healthier buildings, while conserving energy, and reducing waste through recycling.
