City Weed Removal Project Begins Third Week 2017
The City of Las Cruces has engaged in a massive, eight week, city-wide weed removal project called “Just Weed It,” which began on Monday, Sept. 25.
Between 50 and 60 City employees from Parks & Recreation, Codes Enforcement, and Streets & Traffic Operations have been working in teams the past two weeks, to remove weeds from medians, streets, sidewalks and other City properties.
The City is asking the public to be aware of, and slow down near, the employees who may be out on foot near traffic and vehicles. The teams will be out from 3 - 7 p.m., Monday – Thursday, for the next six weeks.
The goal is to help rid the community of the weed nuisance that erupted following a string of monsoon rain events. Weeds may be pulled, or sprayed with herbicides that appear bluish green for approximately two-weeks. A computer program is tracking the areas where weed mitigation has occurred.
Operation “Just Weed It” falls under the City Council’s newly-adopted strategic plan of results-oriented plans for sidewalks, parks, median landscaping and facilities.
