Saturday Family Science – Ice Core Excavations at the Las Cruces Museum of Nature and Science 2018
Uncover the mysteries of Earth’s time capsule: Glacial ice. Find out how paleoclimatologists sample glacial ice around the world and what we can learn about prehistoric climate change at “Saturday Family Science” as we explore ice core science from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. on Jan. 6, at the Museum of Nature and Science 411 North Main St.
During this one-hour session, participants will act as climatologists and investigate the secrets of the ice through hands on experiments. They will take a cupcake “ice” core sample and chart the climate data to interpret past atmospheric changes and hypothesize weather conditions in different parts of the world based on our cores.
Admission to the Museum of Nature and Science is free. The museum is open from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and from 9 a.m. to 4:30 pm Saturday. For more information, visit the website at: http://las-cruces.org/museums or call 575.522.312
