High school diploma or equivalent. Age 18 by the start of the Fire Academy. Must maintain a level of physical fitness to meet department standards.
Valid drivers license required. Position requires an acceptable driving record in accordance with City of Las Cruces policy.
Minimum of New Mexico (NM), National Registry (NR), or other state issued Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Basic licensure required at the time of application. NREMT and out of state licensees must obtain New Mexico EMT license prior to regular full time employment (academy will include necessary transition course if required). Must maintain a minimum of NM EMT Basic licensure throughout the period of employment.
Prior to the start of the academy and as part of the selection process, candidates MUST Pass: Written exam (has no study guide); Physical Ability Test (PAT); acrophobia test; assessment board; background investigation (to include a polygraph test); medical examination upon offer of position (includes drug screening).
