Born and raised in Hastings, Minnesota, son of an Electrical Contractor, Gill graduated from Winona State University, Winona, MN, in 1968 with a bachelor’s degree in Biology.  He taught science at St. Augustine School in Austin MN, 1968-70.  Continuing his pursuit in education, Gill joined the Peace Corps and taught science at Ghana’s Amedzofe Teacher Training College from 1970-73.    There he met and married his wife, Christine A. McConaty, also a science teacher in the Peace Corps in 1972.  Returning to the U.S., he received a Masters of Science in Biology at The University of North Dakota, 1976.

After employment with the Montana Dept. of Agriculture as a Pesticide Specialist, 1976-78, Gill joined his family’s ranch and farm in Wolf Point MT, managing and operating it until 1998.  The ranch raised Angus cattle, wheat, barley, hay and alfalfa seed.

In 1998 he moved to New Mexico and was employed as a contractor with AgriBioTech Seed Company (ABT), as a consultant for growing alfalfa seed.

After his work was done with ABT, he worked as a substitute teacher. Between 2000 and 2009 he has had seasonal employment at WSMR, MASSCOM Systems of Virginia, Threatened and Endangered Species (TES) and National Environment Policy Act (NEPA) with MX Spotted Owl (US Air Force/Hubbs SeaWorld Research Institute project), TES plant species at Ft. Bliss, raptor surveys in Colorado, consulting for Zia Engineering and Environmental Consultants, LLC, (ZiaEEC), Mountain Plover nesting surveys in Colorado (Rocky Mountain Bird Observatory), and Wildlife Manager for Birdstrike Control Program at McConnell Air Force Base, Wichita, Kansas.  As of October, 2008, he has been working part time for ZiaEEC in Las Cruces as a Staff Scientist working in biology and NEPA.

Since Oct. 2008, he has been contracted by Pioneer HiBred International Inc. as an alfalfa seed production consultant.

He has a daughter, Amoreena Joy France, married to Matthew France, and granddaughter, Angelina France, living in Spokane, WA, and a son, Andrew Sorg, living in Sandpoint ID.

 

Council District 5

District 5 dominates the area immediately to the north of the city to include sections northwest and northeast of the city. The District runs along the north side of North Main Street between Spitz Avenue to the NW, Hanger Lake Road to the NE and Peachtree Hills Road to the north and includes Hacienda Acres and Jornada subdivisions south of U.S. 70.
