Juvenile Citation Program

Q.  How does a child get referred to the Juvenile Citation Program?

A.  Law enforcement will make a referral through the Juvenile Class III Citation.  This will be routed to the Juvenile Probation and Parole Office and they will verify if the child is in fact a first offender through the FACTS statewide database.  If there are no previous offenses, the child will then be referred to the program and the Intake Specialist will continue the screening process to determine eligibility.

Q.  What types of offenses are eligible to participate?

A.  Any of the offenses listed under the Class III Citation including: graffiti, shoplifting (under $250), disorderly conduct, truancy, possession of alcohol, trespassing, public affray, battery, assault, runaway, concealing ID, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana (under 8 oz.), and criminal damage (under $1,000).

Q.  How long does it take for a participant to complete the program?

A.  It can take anywhere from 2 weeks to a month to complete the program in its entirety.

Q.  What happens if the child is not complying with program regulations?

A.  If the child is non-compliant, they will be disqualified from the Juvenile Citation Program and referred to the Juvenile Probation and Parole Office or Teen Court.

Q.  How does the program measure success?

A.  Tracking Specialists will conduct follow up with program participants and their parents for up to a year to measure recidivism and improvements in overall behavior.
