WHAT IS THE ADOPTION OF PUBLIC AREAS PROGRAM?

The Adoption of Public Areas (Adopt-A-Median) program gives businesses, non-profit organizations, families and individuals a way to contribute to the beautification and upkeep of public areas.  At the same time, it provides valuable name recognition for the adopter: thousands of drivers see your adoption sign every day.

WHICH PUBLIC AREAS?

City parks, landscaped medians, landscaped parkways and other areas are part of the adoption program.  Most medians are located on: Roadrunner Parkway, Telshor Boulevard, Picacho Avenue, Valley Drive, Motel Boulevard, Main Street, and Lohman Avenue.

WHAT IS THE ADOPTER’S RESPONSIBILITY?

Generally, the adopter agrees to keep the area free of weeds and litter, with work done on a bi-weekly basis, or as needed.  The program is self-governing, meaning the adopter is responsible for keeping their promise without supervision from KLCB.

Interested parties may also choose to landscape a bare median or parkway at their own expense, and would work with the City's landscape designer to develop a landscape plan.  The party may then adopt the completed median.

WHAT IS THE CITY’S RESPONSIBILITY?

Water usage, repairs due to vandalism and all additional maintenance are the responsibility of the City’s Parks Operations and Maintenance office.  The City provides two signs, designating the adopter’s name, which are placed appropriately within the area.

WHO MAY PARTICIPATE?

Adoption of Public Areas is open to businesses, non-profit organizations, families and individuals. Student and youth groups are not eligible to participate in the adoption program at this time.  There are no fees required to adopt a public area.  However, the promise to maintain a public area by keeping it weed and litter-free is a big one. Before agreeing to participate in this program, please be sure you are able to keep your commitment!
