What's New

Alameda Depot Neighborhood Plan

The hearing on the DRAFT Alameda Depot Neighborhood Plan has been postponed to the October 28th meeting of the Planning and Zoning Commission. Leadership of the two neighborhood associations agreed to work with staff to attempt to reconcile differences of opinion regarding several of the plan's policies. Any changes that are made to the draft as a result of this process will be posted here as soon as they are available, and will be presented to the Commission on October 28th at 6:00pm at City Council Chambers. To obtain a hard copies of the changes, please call 528-3209.

The above link is to the draft document that was reviewed by the Commission on August 26th. Written comments may still be submitted prior to the October 28th hearing via e-mail to cmccall@las-cruces.org or by hand delivery to Carol McCall at 575 S Alameda Blvd. Any new comments received will be given directly to the Planning & Zoning Commission at the hearing. There will be an opportunity for verbal comment from the public at the hearing.

Proposed Building and Fire Prevention Codes

The City of Las Cruces is currently accepting public comment on proposed revisions to the City’s Development Code (Building and Building Regulations section) and Fire Prevention Code. The revisions have been made to bring the codes up-to-date. The codes are part of Chapter 30 of the Development Code and Chapter 11 Article II of the Fire Prevention Code. They regulate all private commercial and residential construction within the City limits.

Comments will be accepted until August 27th through several methods:

In addition to the proposed changes, Community Development will also be adopting the International Code Council version of the 2006 Family of Codes. For more information contact Robert Kyle, Building Official at (575) 528-3106.

Business Registrations

Business Registrations has moved to the Economic Development Office at 250 South Downtown Mall. This change is effective May 14th. Contact Vickie Montez at 575-541-2287 or vickim@las-cruces.org.

Growth Management

On March 19th, 2008, the Community Development Department made several presentations to City Council during a worksession on growth management, which are available for download as a PDF. The first was on current development processes (<1MB), and the second was on smart growth (11MB).
