| LCPD Plans Sobriety Checkpoint - Friday, July 30, 2010 at 08:31 |
| The Las Cruces Police Department has scheduled at least one sobriety checkpoint within city limits for the upcoming weekend of July 30 through Aug. 1. Sobriety checkpoints are part of LCPD’s efforts to reduce and eliminate the number of motorists who drive while intoxicated. The enforcement activities also may include saturation, underage and party patrols. Las Cruces Police encourage those who plan on consuming alcoholic beverages to arrange ahead of time and use a designated driver – someone who will not be drinking alcohol – for their transportation needs. Residents of Dona Ana County are reminded that they can take advantage of Project HOME, an initiative of the local DWI Program. For a minimal fee, Project HOME (Helping Others Make it home Every time) offers a safe ride to anyone who may have consumed alcohol and needs a ride home. Project HOME is available weekends and holidays between the hours of 5:30 p.m. and 3 a.m. For information call (575) 524-TAXI (8294). |
