I am a third generation New Mexican who attended public schools while growing up in the Land of Enchantment. I attended the College of Wooster in Wooster, OH and earned dual degrees in English and Philosophy.
After working on a commercial fishing vessel in Alaska and graduating from college, I returned home. Because I grew up with an attachment to the land, I began working on conservation issues with the New Mexico Wilderness Alliance. I am an avid sportsman and outdoorsman and enjoy the outdoor education and recreation opportunities near Las Cruces.
Extensive community volunteer work and service on the Doña Ana County Planning and Zoning Committee led me to seek election to the Las Cruces City Council. I continue to focus on existing neighborhoods, economic development with a focus on renewable energy, and neighborhood safety.
Delay is decay, so existing neighborhoods need investment and attention that honors old and new residents alike. Economic development and revitalization brings high paying jobs to Las Cruces and helps keep our tax base strong. Neighborhood safety depends on communication, connections between neighbors, police, and community officials. I am proud to help bring more neighborhood watch groups to District Four.
I am engaged and will soon be married to Xochitl Torres.
