Weed and Seed Program
Operation Weed & Seed, or commonly called the Weed & Seed Program, is operated by LCPD’s Special Services Unit.
Weed & Seed is a multi-agency program that “weeds” out violent crime and drug activity in a targeted neighborhood and then “seeds” the neighborhood through social and economic revitalization. Las Cruces’ Mesquite Street neighborhood is the designated Weed & Seed site and is recognized as a Federal site by the U.S. Department of Justice.
The Weed & Seed neighborhood includes the residential community from Colorado Avenue north to Madrid Street, and from Main Street east to Solano Drive.
Children from throughout the neighborhood go to the Weed and Seed house, also known as the A. Fielder Memorial Safe Haven, every day and take part in free tutoring and structured activities. The Weed & Seed office can be contacted by e-mail or by phone at (575) 528-4257.
