Fire Station #4 is the home-base for the Hazardous Materials Response Team (HMRT). The HMRT is a 24 person team that is responsible for handling hazardous materials incidents at the technician level. We have the capability to handle highway, rail and fixed facilities incidents in accordance with the New Mexico Hazardous Materials Response Plan and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s 29 CFR 1910.120. The HMRT has a 40 foot tractor trailer that contains 14 roll around carts that house our suits and mitigation equipment. We have 4 levels of protective gear that include 1-hour air bottles, Level-A suits, Level-B suits and bunker gear. The mitigation equipment we have consists of equipment to stop leaks, absorb spills, off-load petroleum products and identify chemicals.
