Business inspections are an important component of fire prevention activities conducted by the Las Cruces Fire Department. We conduct these inspections for the purpose of reducing the risk of fire.
Prevention Services is responsible for enforcing the state and local fire safety codes and ordinances in the City of Las Cruces. This is accomplished through the annual business inspections of all manufacturing, storage, educational, business, mercantile and places of assembly. All new businesses within the City must pass a fire department inspection prior to the issuance of a business license by the City of Las Cruces. Information on Business Registration Applications can be obtained at the Community Development Department, 700 N. Main St., 575-528-3222.
Prevention Services reviews all new commercial construction plans in conjunction with the Community Development Department for all new construction or alterations to structures.
We enforce code compliance using the International Fire Code 2006 edition and the Internation Building Code 2006 edition. We anticipate adopting the 2009 International Fire Code. Fire sprinklers must comply with NFPA 13 and NFPA 13R, and fire alarms must comply with NFPA 72.
