Executing the policies of the city council are City government’s top administrators; the city manager, chief operating officer and chief administrative officer. These three administrators head up the Administration Department and provide the direction the rest of the City organization follows. Falling within the Administration Department are three sections; Public Information Office, Internal Audit , Economic Development and the Office of Managment and Budget.
The Public Information Office (PIO) is the primary source of outreach for Las Cruces municipal government. Within PIO are the Community Relations Coordinator who serves as a liaison between city council and the public and oversees City-funded special events. PIO develops and issues news releases, a variety of other print materials, and operates CLC-TV, the City of Las Cruces’ government access channel on Comcast cable channel 20.
Internal Audit provides audits and consulting services designed to promote transparency, accountability, efficiency and overall effectiveness of City government. The mission of the Internal Audit Department is to provide independent, objective assurance and consulting services in accordance with the Institute of Internal Auditors’ international standards and government auditing standards.
The Economic Development and Business Assistance Office works to support existing businesses in Las Cruces and to attract new businesses to the area. The office serves as a liaison between the City and community wide economic development efforts and works internally to coordinate activities that impact businesses and communicate city issues to local businesses.
The Office of Management and Budget (OMB) coordinates the preparation and development of the City’s annual operating budget, capital budget, and multi-year capital improvement program. OMB monitors and tracks all active capital projects and monitors revenues and expenditures throughout the fiscal year.
