Ceiling Tile Replacement, Change in Soap Dispensers at City Hall

As part of the City’s commitment to improve customer service, safety, and to keep its facilities in proper shape and appearance, City of Las Cruces Public Works/Facilities Management has contracted with a local service provider to replace ceiling tiles at selected locations throughout Las Cruces City Hall, 700 N. Main St.

Work is expected to start on Thursday, August 8, 2019, and continue for as long as three weeks. Facilities staff will contact each City department and schedule the work to minimize inconvenience or interruption to operations at each location.

Also, as part of the City’s ongoing commitment to address consistency of service, compliance with the American’s with Disabilities Act (ADA), and to help meet sustainability goals, Public Works/Facilities Management has begun removing and replacing battery-operated soap dispensers at City Hall. Replacement of the units started this week and is expected to be complete by next week. The changes will be made outside of usual operational hours at City Hall.

Input from customers as well as maintenance issues experienced by custodial staff have shown the battery operated hands-free sensor units have not lived up to expectations in terms of ease of use, expected equipment life, battery life, and availability and quantity of soap dispensed.  This will simplify replacement needs if a soap dispenser fails and will reduce the amount and type of inventory needed to be kept on-hand.

Facilities Management has worked closely with the custodial supply vendor and determined that replacing the units with manual push-lever types will provide much improved customer service and assist with standardization of equipment in restrooms.  Once this process is complete at City Hall, Facilities Management will also be working with site managers to help implement this change throughout the City – based on needs at a given site to meet customer expectations.  Further notices will be issued at a later date.
